Apple is not expected to have an 5G iPhone ready until 2020. With that in mind, Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon said on Tuesday that all Android manufacturers will have at least one flagship phone that supports 5G by the end of 2019. And since Qualcomm's 5G baseband modem chips will be found in nearly all of these Android flavored handsets supporting the next generation of wireless connectivity, the company's president should know.

During Qualcomm's Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii on Tuesday, Amon said that one year from now, every Android handset maker will have a 5G flagship phone being sold by U.S. carriers. With Apple apparently not rolling out 5G supported iPhones until the end of the third quarter of 2020, the Android platform could see a wave of business from first adopters and others curious about 5G.

During his keynote speech yesterday, Qualcomm's president showed a slide of the hardware companies working with Qualcomm on 5G. These firms include Asus, Fujitsu, Google, HMD, HTC, InSeeGo, LG, Motorola, Netgear, NetComm Wireless, OnePlus, Oppo, Samsung, Sharp, Sierra Wireless, Sony, Telit, Vivo, WingTech, WNC, Mi and ZTE.

"5G could impact a broad set of user experiences, from the way we watch content to how we socialize, game, and shop. Even the way we communicate will be enhanced. No one knows this better than the mobile ecosystem leaders from Samsung, Verizon, AT&T, and EE, whom Amon welcomed onto the stage to share the ways 5G will encourage new opportunities for innovation around the world."-Qualcomm

With 5G, data speeds will be 10 to 100 times faster than 4G. A full-length movie will download on a 5G phone in seconds, a well-worn example we've rolled out a few times. On Monday, Samsung and Qualcomm showed off a prototype handset running on 5G signals from Verizon. There is speculation that this prototype was actually the Samsung Galaxy S10.
