The Benue State Command of the NDLEA has arrested two girls, Chioma Afam, 36, and Peace Chidinma Caleb, 22, for allegedly trafficking 296,000 tablets of illicit medicine.
The Director of Media and Advocacy of the NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi, made the announcement in a press release in Abuja on Wednesday.
He mentioned that the duo used a number of identities and wore the hijab to evade safety scrutiny.
Babafemi mentioned the women had been arrested in Benue whereas making an attempt to smuggle a complete of 296,000 tablets of Diazepam and Exol-5 from Onitsha in Anambra to Gombe State.
The spokesman mentioned that Afam, who used a number of names, together with Amina, Uzoamaka and Ifunanya, to cowl her legal actions was arrested on July 17 together with Caleb.
Babafemi mentioned that the car the women had been travelling in from Onitsha was intercepted alongside the Makurdi-Aliade street whereas heading to Gombe State by Makurdi.
“A search of their car led to the invention of 43 kilograms of Diazepam and 33 kilograms of Exol-5, each weighing 76 kilograms with a complete of 296,000 tablets packed in 4 massive ‘Ghana should go’ baggage.
“Curiously, the 2 inter-state drug traffickers have rebuffed efforts to take photos with the reveals with out sporting their hijab.”
“In the meantime, the Ondo State Command of the company on July 18, intercepted one Olu Ameh, a industrial bike rider with 465 kilograms of hashish sativa alongside Ijagba-Ute street within the Ose Native Authorities Space of the state.’’
Babafemi mentioned that the illicit substance was mentioned to have been purchased from one Joseph in In the past-Akure within the Akure North Native Authorities Space of the state whereas being conveyed to the client, one Egbonwon at Ijagba village in Ose Native Authorities Space of the state.
The spokesman quoted the Chairman of the NDLEA, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, as commending operatives of the Benue and Ondo States Instructions of the company for his or her efforts.
