Oppo receives another patent for a phone
« on: August 05, 2019, 12:47:24 AM »

Back in February, China's second-largest smartphone manufacturer said that it has its sights set on the U.S. This won't happen right away because the company says that it first wants to get its European operations in order. Besides, now not might be the best time for a Chinese manufacturer not named OnePlus to enter the U.S. market. Ironically, OnePlus and Oppo have the same corporate parent.

Meanwhile, a design patent Oppo received from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) was published on Friday and reported on by LetsGo Digital. We actually told you about this patent back in March when it was first issued by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). At the time, we pointed out the difference between the patent and the design of the already released Oppo Find X. Both the latter and the patented phone use a slider mechanism to expose the front-facing selfie camera. The difference is that on the Find X, the two rear-facing cameras are found on the back of the mechanism that slides along with dual selfie-cameras. The patented device has a vertically mounted dual-camera setup and a "V" shaped design on its rear panel. It also has two camera sensors on the slider mechanism.

Oppo has also shown off an in-display selfie camera that might be found on a phone next year. All of this is designed to raise the screen-to-body ratio of a smartphone. Based on renders created by Ishan Argawal (@ishanagarwal24), the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ will sport a display that covers a record 92.5% of the phone's body. The Oppo Find X has a screen-to-body-ratio of 87.04% and other handsets like the Huawei P30 Pro (88.5%) and OnePlus 7 Pro (88.4%) also have high ratios.

What is interesting is that each of these aforementioned models uses something different to keep from having to use a large top bezel for the selfie snapper. The Galaxy Note 10+ features the manufacturer's Infinity-O display, which employs a punch-hole camera. The P30 Pro sports a small cutout notch at the top of the screen and the OnePlus 7 Pro uses a pop-up mechanism.
