OnePlus and Sprint team up to launch a 5G smartphone

OnePlus has strengthened its position in the US market over the past year by offering both the OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 7 Pro through T-Mobile. Now, in a bid to capitalize on the growing popularity of 5G, the company has teamed up with Sprint.

Announced via a press release earlier today, Sprint revealed that OnePlus will be the supplier of its fourth 5G-ready smartphone. The carrier hasn’t revealed when the flagship will be available to purchase but it said details including its specifications, pricing, and release date will be revealed “soon.” Speaking about the announcement, Sprint’s Chief Commercial Officer, Dow Draper, said:

We value OnePlus’ reputation for balancing high-end quality at a great value. This new smartphone gives Sprint customers another exciting option for accessing their True Mobile 5G experience.


The exact device Sprint and OnePlus plan to launch together wasn’t mentioned by name, but the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G is already available in a number of global markets, therefore making it the most likely candidate. As an alternative, the Chinese brand could be preparing a 5G version of the upcoming OnePlus 7T Pro, although this isn’t expected to launch until October or November at the very earliest.

For those of you interested in Sprint’s 5G network but not necessarily OnePlus’ new phone, the carrier already offers the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and the LG V50 ThinQ 5G. Later this month, consumers should also gain access to the Galaxy Note 10 5G which will be announced tomorrow.
