LG G6 now receiving Android Pie update
« on: October 25, 2019, 07:31:16 AM »

Originally released all the way back in March 2017 with a Snapdragon 821 processor under the hood that wasn't exactly impressive even by the standards of those days, the LG G6 started receiving its official Android Pie update on Verizon somewhat surprisingly last month.

Yes, Android 10 is already out and hitting various OnePlus and Nokia phones while a bunch of other OEMs are apparently working on stable updates of their own, but did we mention how old and unimpressive the G6 must seem to power users these days? Well, regardless of all that, the Android 9.0 love moved quickly across European markets at around the same time Big Red customers were treated to the radical UI makeover, and today we're hearing chatter of an expansion to AT&T, as well as Canada.

The rollout up north is clearly moving a lot faster than what the second-largest wireless service provider stateside is doing, as reported by dozens of relieved Canadian users on both Reddit and Twitter. But after doing a little digging, we've also found a few people happy to report their wait for Pie goodies has officially ended on AT&T-specific G6 variants carrying model number H871.

For its part, the carrier has yet to list a new changelog on its device support webpage, where Android 8.0 Oreo remains filed as the LG G6's "current update." These things often take a little time to be refreshed, though, so there's still every reason to expect a nationwide rollout from AT&T in the coming days.

By the way, in case you're wondering, the Android 9.0 build seems to be paired with May security patches on the H871, which is obviously not ideal but at least it's significantly better than the previous February security patch level running on AT&T's LG G6 in tandem with Android 8.0.
